Zeraphina wins the archery contest and then goes behind a tent to get some peace and quiet, when a figure dressed fully in black comes up to her, Rodden saves her and tells her to be more careful. Renata tells the story about their father, about how they hated each other first but then he said that she loved and in the end they got married and had them. Lilith soon forgets all about Lester two days later when she announces her and Amis are getting married. the king's advisor, Rodden, after catching her in his room, challenges her to an archery contest, on the terms that if she won, she would get anything she wanted but if she lost he would have her hand in marriage. when they get there they rest for bit before meeting the King and Queen and the Prince and Princess. so two days later they head to the northern kingdom. it takes more than 15 days. Then Lilith and Renata start screaming at each other because Lilith doesn't want to marry anyone else when she is still grieving for Lester and Renata won't accept that. it is an offer of marriage to the king's only son, Prince Amis. then their mother sends out letters that Lilith is available, much to her disgust, they receive a letter from Pergamia, the most powerful kingdom in Brivora.

What has happened: it starts of with Zeraphina going out to do some archery because she starts to crave blood again, a while later she is disturbed by one her animals and realises something's happened so she starts heading back to the castle when she gets to her sisters room, she sees Lilith crying on the floor and soon learns that the Lester the prince of Varlint, the man Lilith was betrothed to originally, is dead.
